If there’s one thing I’ve learned recently it’s that Paella is incredibly difficult to find within the city – and by that I mean, it’s very hard to come across a place that serves good paella. Sure, anyone can throw some rice, saffron, a few veggies and some meat or seafood in a pan and call it paella – but it’s very hard to nail the authenticity behind the dish.
If you’re like me and are craving a good paella but are on the fence of where to go, then don’t worry because after going on a hunt myself, I’ve narrowed it down to the top three places that offer the best paella in the city.
Patria
Besides being the most well known Spanish restaurant within the city, Patria offers four different types of paella ranging from one with seafood like shrimp, mussels, calamari, fish, one with a 14-hour braised lamb, and there’s even one for vegetarians that has mushroom sofrito, truffle paste, spring mushrooms, artichoke and piquillo pepper. The restaurant advises customers that their paella takes around 45 minutes to cook as within that time frame, the rice settles and all the flavours blend in. Diners have the option of a small pan ($30) and a large pan ($55.)
La Paella
While some may be hesitant to head to La Paella because of their $95 charge for each of their seven paella dishes, it’s important to know that in comparison to their competitors, La Paella definitely has an advantage as they use imported Spanish broth and, get this, they even have their very own designated Paella chef. Without a doubt their paella’s are guaranteed to be some of the best in the city!

Carmen
Last but not least, Carmen takes third place for the best paella in town – and is well known for its “paella del carmen” which includes shrimps, clams, mussels, scallops, chorizo, chicken and saffron. All the paellas at Carmen are priced the same ($68.)
